Electrical transformer boxes
Electrical transformer boxes are common objects in modern cities worldwide. They are iron made, square-shaped in pure grey color boxes standing at every corner of street.
Electrical transformer boxes become the favorite spots for street artists for their smooth surface and single color which made them the best canvas.
However, maintaining the electrical transformer boxes clean is also the top priority for the city government. The environmental protection department sends people to paint over the boxes everyday to cover up graffiti. On the next day, a new tag will appear on the new paint.
In this project 10 home-made electrical transformer boxes was made and installed in the streets of Taipei, as ‘traps’ to attract people to paint on it. The government would paint over them in a heartbeat. Tagging on these boxes was a legal act to personal property. And painting over the tags by the government became real vandalizing.
